A collection of projects we've poured our hearts into over the years
Every building tells a story, and we've been lucky enough to help craft quite a few. From small residential retreats in the mountains to larger commercial spaces downtown, each project brings its own challenges and rewards. Here's what we've been working on.
This one was special - a private residence tucked into the mountainside that had to balance privacy with those incredible valley views. We used reclaimed timber from old barns in the area and floor-to-ceiling glass that doesn't fight with the landscape. The client wanted something that felt both modern and rooted in tradition, which honestly is our sweet spot.
Converting a century-old warehouse into a tech office space was... well, it was interesting. We kept the exposed brick and timber beams because why wouldn't you, then added these floating glass meeting pods that kinda hang in the middle of the space. The geothermal heating system was a bit of a headache to install but totally worth it for the energy savings.
Right on the water's edge, this family home needed to handle hot summers and cold winters without looking like a bunker. We went with white cedar cladding and a living roof that keeps things cool naturally. The kids' wing is separate from the main living area - smart parents who value their sanity. Large decks that basically live outside most of the year.
This 1912 fire hall sat empty for years before we got our hands on it. Now it's mixed-use with retail on the ground floor and office space above. The original pole and brass fixtures are still there - couldn't bring myself to remove them. Working within heritage guidelines is always tricky but honestly makes you more creative than starting from scratch.
Public spaces are where architecture really impacts daily life. This plaza redesign focused on making the area actually usable year-round - heated benches, covered areas that don't feel like tunnels, rain gardens that handle our notorious downpours. We added a small amphitheater that hosts summer concerts and a farmer's market space that's been pretty popular.
Craft breweries have their own vibe and this one's no exception. Industrial but welcoming, functional but beautiful. The tasting room has 20-foot ceilings with exposed ductwork we painted in copper tones. Production area's got all the stainless steel you'd expect but we added skylights that change the feel completely. It's become quite the local hangout spot.
Six units on a tight lot - that's the Vancouver reality these days. Each townhome feels private despite sharing walls, with staggered rooflines and individual courtyards. We pushed hard for triple-glazed windows and heat pumps, which wasn't the cheapest option but the owners appreciate it every time their energy bills come in. Passive House certified, which we're pretty proud of.
Another warehouse conversion but this time residential. The original timber structure was in rougher shape than we'd hoped, so there was a lot of careful restoration work. Left the concrete floors and wood posts exposed, then added modern interventions that clearly read as new. Eight loft units that sold before we'd even finished construction.
We're always interested in hearing about new challenges. Whether it's a complete build or just bouncing around some ideas, let's talk.
